Daniela Ortiz

Daniela Ortiz creates visual narratives which explore the concepts of nationality, racialisation, social class and genre in order to critically understand the structures of colonial, patriarchal and capitalist power. Her projects and research revolve around the European migratory control system, its links to colonialism and the legal structures created in order to inflict violence on racialised communities. Recently, her artistic practice has turned to visual and manual work, developing art pieces in ceramic and collages, and to formats such as children’s books in order for the author to distance herself from Eurocentric conceptual art aesthetics. She has exhibited in Spain, the United States, Hong Kong, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Jordan, Great Britain, Peru, Sweden, Romania, Poland, and the Czech Republic. As an activist, Daniela Ortiz is engaged in struggles against institutional racism and the European migratory control system.
