Duba Sambolec

Duba Sambolec was born on July 7, 1949 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. From 1992 to 2007, she was Professor of Fine Art, Head of Sculpture at The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. From 1998 to 1999 she was Professor of Fine Art with emphasis on Sculpture at The National Academy of Fine Art, Oslo, Norway. From 2008-2012 she was Professor of the 1st year BFA, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Oslo, Norway.

Her other activities include public lectures, presentations, curatorial practice, writing texts on Fine Art, active participation at the international conferences and panel discussions, co-organization and leadership of international seminar, international tutorship of the BFA and MFA students, guest artist-teacher experience in Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Slovenia and P. R. of China, external examination assessment in Dublin, Ireland and international interviews on the TV, radio and printed media.

She is officially included as a subject of biographical record in lexicons such as International Biographical Centre / IBC, Cambridge, U.K.; 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century, 2009/10, selected by the Awards Board as a member of the IBC Top 100 Educators - 2009, www.internationalbiographicalcentre.com Marquis’ Who’s Who in the World, New Providence, N.J., U.S.A., 2009/06 and in Personalities, Large Slovenian Biographical Lexicon.

Her artworks are in the Museums, private collections and at the memorial of the WWII victims, Graška gora, Slovenia. Video opus is included to the AV archives DIVA / Digital Video Archive, SCCA Ljubljana, Slovenia that’s a part of GAMA / Gateway to Archives of Media Art, Europe and in the online Art & Feminism television programming ArtFem.TV comprising 19 video performances.

Duba is recipient of awards, grants and residency, amongst other; The Pollock-Krasner and Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support and Emergency grants, NY, U.S.A. She realized 37 solo shows. She was invited by curator Prof. Dr. Dieter Ronte to Aperto `88, Venice Biennial, Venice, Italy, 1985 from the European curator Pieter Tjabes to São Paulo Biennial, São Paulo, Brazil and in 2000 by the curator Koen van Daele to the 6th International Festival of Contemporary Arts - City of Women, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Duba took part in numerous international group-shows.

Her art covers multimedia installation, sculpture, drawing, video, photo performance and digital photo-collage.
