Stereo Total

Concert / promotion of the album Baby Ouh! (Kill Rock Stars, 2010)

The Berlin-based French/German duo – partners also in their private life – comprises Françoise Cactus, a renowned novelist, and experimentalist Brezel Göring. In their music, they combine two distinctive traditions – French chanson and German electronica with the uniquely German sound of "Neue Deutsche Welle", popular in the eighties, and the emergence of electrogroove, a sound which has flourished over the past ten years in a number of Berlin clubs. In the course of fourteen years, ten albums and one hundred and sixty-three songs, the duo has developed a colourful and fascinating universe oscillating between punkrock, disco and electro garage. Their songs dazzle us for an instant leaving us stunned by their intensity.

Under the Kill Rock Stars label, Stereo Total – in addition to the label’s other featured artists, including Hella, Deerhoof, Get Hustle, Godzik Pink, Xiu Xiu, Decemberists, Gossip, Bikini Kill etc. – released their tenth studio album, Baby Ouh! in May 2010. The playful and experimental sound in the 17 tracks, together with their typical lyrics (also including a few cover versions of their idols, such as Brigitte Fontaine and Pedro Almodovar) represents the music they would like to listen to on the radio.

The duo who for the last 10 years have been constantly touring around the world – in Japan, Australia, North and South American and Europe – have always tried to solve musical, technical and marketing problems with ideas rather than with major label money and recording studio techniques. They travel with a minimum of rock band equipment regardless of whether they are playing in clubs or at rave parties. (Senada Čorović)
