“The gardener asks the bush whether it wants to becomean animal, and trims its branches into the shape of anelephant. The circus performer asks his dog to bark a song and puts him in a dress.” Accomplished theatre art-ist Sanne van Rijn has created a minimalist and humorousallegory about the illusion of personal freedom. Al-though we believe that free will and free action sepa-rate us from animals, we are in reality prisoners ofother people’s representations of ourselves. Sanne vanRijn employs a basic, yet immensely effective stage bodylanguage to mock our presumptuousness. Norms, values, and other guideposts directing our behaviour are notabstract entities, but rather the result of interactionsand power relations. And as such they are not imperviousto change.
The performance will be followed by a social evening with a secret guest, concluded by DJane Sestra and DJ Brat. We will meet our invited guests at the Cankarjev dom CD Club.
